Get Out + Shop Local | 2015 Jersey City Markets

"Remember that Disney documentary we watched about the bears?" The Love of My Life asked. "Um, you mean 'Bears'?" I replied.

"Yes," he said. "It's like that today in Jersey City. Humans are crawling out of their homes into the sunny spring just like those bears crawled out of the frozen tundras of Alaska after the winter." I cracked up. He was right.

As we walked downtown, doors to homes opened left and right along Erie Street, and (seemingly) all of Jersey City poured out on to the sidewalks, squinting, faces turned and pulled up toward the sun, smiling as the 70 degree temps warmed their skin and stopping every three feet to InstaSnap the blossoms, or flowers, or their children in not-fifty-five-thousand layers of clothing, looking so light and happy. And the general spirit and vibe around town was content satisfaction.

But the best part of this time of year? The re-opening of the outdoor markets season! Jersey City is not lacking in that department, and that was one of my favorite discoveries when we moved here. It continues to be a highlight of living across the Hudson from the City.

UPDATE: Mayor Steven Fulop and the Jersey City Department of Health and Human Resources released the following PDF of all the local markets, which is a great resource to download and keep (I know, I know, you printed my blog post and carry it everywhere, but I admit that Fulop's PDF is a little easier to reference on the go). I also used it to update the above with markets I had missed. Thanks Mayor!

Who did I -- or the Mayor -- miss? I've got chronic mom brain to blame. He's got the whole running a city thing on his mind. Please let me know in the comments below and I will update this post! All photos published in this post are mine. Please don't steal them without asking first, and/or properly crediting.
